Taveuni Diving Holidays
Taveuni is the closest access point to the world famous dives sites of the Somosomo Strait, home to some of the best soft coral to be found anywhere on this earth.
The island of Taveuni is located just off Vanua Levu, Fiji's second island. It still feels incredibly remote which is part of its charm with just a handful of hotels.
The main draw for divers is that this is the closest access point to the wonderful diving to be found in the Somosomo Strait which is generally considered to be home to Fiji's best diving. What makes it so special is the ripping currents that come through the Strait making it the perfect environment for soft coral. Sites like the world-famous Great White Wall are mind-blowingly beautiful. You have to be careful when you dive or you will end up on a manic drift dive but get it right and the diving is spectacular.
There are a number of dive sites on the Rainbow Reefs in the Strait and while the quality of the soft coral may be the main draw, it is not the only reason to dive here as the fish life is fantastic. In the right season you will find mantas, hammerheads, all manner of reef sharks and even the odd whale shark, as well as lots of fascinating small stuff.
Add to the diving some world-class places to lay your head each night and a beautiful island with World Heritage status and you can see why we are such fans. Quite simply, this is why you travel all the way to Fiji.
