Travel Advice & Information

Welcome to Fiji! Here are some important things to know before your trip.

Time difference

Fiji is 11 hours ahead of the UK (GMT) and 12 hours ahead from mid-November to mid-January due to daylight saving time.

Money

The official currency of Fiji is the Fijian Dollar (FJD). Cash and credit cards are accepted in big cities like Suva but be prepared to use cash in smaller villages. There are plenty of ATMs available if you need to withdraw cash.

Electricity

The standard current is 240 Volts/50 Hz. Make sure to bring an adapter for your electrical appliances.

Shopping

Most merchants operate from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and from 8am to 3pm on Saturdays. Keep in mind that many places close for lunch between 1pm and 2pm.

Phone

If you like to stay connected, Fiji has two main phone networks: Vodafone and Digicel. Internet coverage can be good in some areas but may be patchy or non-existent in more remote islands. Most hotels should have Wi-Fi available.

Media

Radio Fiji One and Radio Fiji Two are the top radio stations in Fiji. You can tune in to stay updated with local news and entertainment.

Post

If you need to send postcards or mail, be prepared for varying delivery times. Post can take anywhere from five to seven working days (signed) to eight weeks (economy) to reach the UK.

Phone

To call Fiji from the UK, dial: 00 - 679 - area code plus a landline number or 00 - 679 - plus a mobile number. To call the United Kingdom from Fiji, dial: 00 - 44 - area code and a landline number, or 00 - 44 - and a mobile number.
