The Bimini Sands Resort in the Bahamas is the base for our dive expeditions in February each year to experience one of the most incredible creatures on earth close-up: the great hammerhead shark.

Although the Bimini Sands Resort is not necessarily the most picturesque resort on earth, this is not why you make the journey to Bimini, located just 53 miles east of Miami, Florida. The big draw to this group of islands, where the Gulf Stream flows past to the west, is the opportunity to dive with great hammerheads in crystal clear, shallow water.

The Bimini Sands Resort is extremely comfortable consisting of one-bedroom or two-bedroom condos with either a marina or ocean view. All the condos are decorated differently and some have a loft so can fit an extra two people. They are all equipped with a kitchen, living room and first floor patio or balcony (the two-bedroom condos have both).

With a kitchen in the condos, you can have a self-catering holiday or if you would rather eat out, Bimini Twist (Beach Club) is a short, free bus ride away and offers delicious food including fresh seafood and a sushi bar. Just next door is Mackey's Sand Bar, a lively nightspot where you can enjoy a few cold beers and relive the day's adventures.

Why We Love It

Just 5 minutes boat ride in front of the resort takes you to the great hammerhead site. This is pretty special.
