Private Island? Check. Powder fine sand? Check. More shades of turquoise ocean than your eyes can adjust to? Check. Parrot Cay is the pre-eminent private island in this previously forgotten corner of the Caribbean.
Be whisked from airport to harbour, ready for the scenic speedboat transfer across to this private island retreat before the ink is dry on your passport stamp. Parrot Cay Island consists of a thousand unspoilt acres, surrounded by bath-warm blue seas, and graced by a mile-long beach of powdered coral sand.
Accommodation at Parrot Cay is in chic whitewashed guestrooms, suites, beach villas and houses, and luxurious private estates. Opt for an Ocean Facing guestroom to enjoy the view from a private balcony or terrace, whilst being within a moment's stroll of the Terrace Restaurant and bar. For the beach lovers, the Beach Houses and Villas come complete with private plunge or lap pools, sundecks, and your own little stretch of powder white paradise, just steps from shore. The utterly spoiling Parrot Cay Estates are all privately owned, and perfect for larger families, or groups of friends - you know you're in good company when you're crashing in Donna Karan, Bruce Willis or Keith Richards pad.
The Terrace restaurant offers a cooling sea breeze for those dining al fresco, and serves a Mediterranean menu by evening, or guests can dine at Lotus restaurant, where an impressive Pan-Asian menu features chili and ginger infused oysters, lime dressed grilled lobster and a succulent beef rendang. In Villa dining is also available, whilst the COMO Shambhala menu is an option for the most health conscious guests.
Being a part of the COMO Shambhala Spa group, it is no surprise that the Spa Retreat at Parrot Cay is an absolute delight, and the perfect sanctuary in which to unwind. Enjoy a COMO signature massage as a post flight treat, and then kick back with an cool ginger tea on the relaxation deck, overlooking the island wetlands, and shore of North Caicos.
Guests can find their own stretch of beach, or relax by the resort's main swimming pool, where ice cold drinks and snacks can be delivered lounger-side. For those that can rouse themselves to greater exertion, there is a fully equipped gym, floodlit tennis courts, yoga pavilion (teacher Emy is fantastic, and offers two complimentary classes per day), bicycles, a jogging track, and a watersports centre on the beachfront. New for 2015 is the mangrove waterway, a route carefully cultivated through mangrove forest for guests to explore sans guide, by kayak or paddleboard.
The Turks & Caicos Islands have some exceptional diving sites, and a team of experienced dive masters on the island of Providenciales can provide instruction and help guests explore the reefs. Island hopping visits to the nearby Iguana & Sand Dollar Islands are also possible.
Although it's a little further from dive HQ, this is one of the most family friendly options in Turks & Caicos, with plenty to occupy any non-divers in the group.
