This resort is excellent value; it has an incredible atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and a first-class dive operation. All these qualities come together to make for a really fantastic dive holiday.
Renowned for its peaceful beachfront surroundings, El Galleon is located on Small Lalaguna Beach, further round the coast from Puerto Galera. The rooms have all been constructed on the steep hillside, in keeping with the natural surroundings. Accommodation includes the budget rooms on ground level, poolside rooms, family rooms and the seaview rooms, which are the highest up the hill and have great views out to sea. If you want something more luxurious and private, the Waimea houses (located a five minutes walk from the resort) are a great option and can accommodate families or friends; equipped with kitchens, two bedrooms, a living area and an attic with a possibility for more beds. The complex has its own private pool and the houses are built into the hillside too, with spectacular views.
The resort has a great pool for relaxing in after diving (also ideal for those wanting to learn to dive) and it is situated next to the excellent restaurant manned by the resident French chef. You eat delicious freshly prepared meals under the stars, only metres from the sea, in the lovely atmosphere of the restaurant. The resort bar is also a great place to hang out after a good days diving to swap stories over a few beers!
The dive operation, Asia Divers, is first-class all round; including equipment, knowledge, amenities and their attitude towards guests. From the moment you set foot on the large deck from where you kit up and get ready for dives, you will feel extremely welcome and will be impeccably looked after. Not to mention the knowledge they have of these waters, giving you the best of each dive site. They also have technical instructors, so if you want to try technical diving or rebreather diving they are well-qualified and experienced to handle your preference.
When you are not diving, there is plenty to keep you occupied with on the island of Mindoro. Places of interest include the nearby Tamaraw waterfalls, Mangyan villages, gold panning, day trips to neighbouring islands, trekking in the jungle or climbing Mt. Malisimbo.
This is a very chilled out resort with a superb atmosphere and makes for a great diving holiday, whether you are a beginner, experienced or even moving onto technical.
The sunloungers that are built into the dive deck make for a great place to chill out with a post-dive beer!
