Egypt Visa Requirements
British citizens typically require a visa to visit Egypt. You can get this online from Visa2Egypt before your trip and it is valid for a maximum of three months.
Tourists can also buy visas at approved bank kiosks in airport arrival halls, but we strongly discourage this due to potentially time-consuming processes. On arrival, the cost is $25, payable in pounds sterling, US dollars or Euros, and is valid for up to 30 days.
Avoid purchasing a visa from agents, as many charge more than $25 USD, and report any harassing agents to the tourist police at the airport. Alternatively, you can get a tourist visa beforehand from an Egyptian Consulate outside of Egypt.
For visits to Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts, no visa is required for stays of up to 15 days; and a free entry permission stamp is given. For longer stays or travel outside these areas, you will need a visa. If plans change after entering Egypt without a visa for South Sinai Red Sea resorts, you can usually purchase one at Sharm el Sheikh airport.
Passport Validity for Egypt Travel
Make sure that your passport remains valid for at least six months from your Egypt arrival date.
Other Important Formalities
Certain UK medications require prior permission from Egypt's Ministry of Health and cannot be brought into the country without it. Lack of permission risks prosecution under Egyptian law. For prescribed medication, carry a medical certificate from your GP confirming health reasons.
