Passport & Visa Requirements

Entry Requirements for Tanzania (Tanzania Visa Requirements)

If you are a British citizen, you will need a tourist or business visa to enter Tanzania. The most convenient way to obtain one is through an online application at https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa. However, you can also obtain a single-entry tourist visa upon your arrival in Tanzania.

Passport Validity:

Please ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of your visa application. This is a requirement set by the Tanzanian authorities.

Other Important Information:

It is highly recommended to carry identification with you at all times, including copies of your passport, visa and driver's license.

Tanzania's official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). It is advisable to carry local currency with you for day-to-day expenses. Smaller establishments may not accept foreign currency or credit cards. We recommend exchanging your currency at authorised exchange bureaus or banks for the best rates. Please note that banks in Tanzania and Zanzibar do not accept $100 USD and $50 USD bills printed before 2006. To avoid any inconvenience, we recommend carrying newer bills and in smaller amounts.

Tanzania has implemented a ban on plastic bags. There are severe penalties for manufacturing, selling and using them. To comply with this regulation, we recommend placing any liquids, gels and creams into your hold luggage to avoid the use of plastic bags required for carry-on luggage.
