As the name suggests, the area is a favourite hangout for manta rays. The Manta Reef dive site is the big draw here, and while the depth of the site requires an advanced certification, it's still accessible if you are a relative beginner. Bazaruto Archipelago

A short journey north from Tofo is the Bazaruto Archipelago, a collection of six picturesque and relatively untouched islands. The island group's coral reefs teem with tropical fish, while some of the world's largest populations of dolphins, whales, sharks, turtles and dugongs also call the archipelago home. The Bazaruto National Park was created to protect the local dugong and turtle populations, and its existence ensures the islands remain tranquil, secluded and a picture-perfect base from which to discover the beginner diving in Mozambique.
