The island has numerous wrecks that are accessible from the shore, but one of our favourite places for wreck diving in Gozo is Xatt I-Ahmar, off the south-east coast. This dive site has three deep wrecks (MV Karwela, MV Xlendi, and Cominoland) all within 50 metres of one another. Sadly, the MV Xlendi was sunk upside down and is too unstable to explore, but the MV Karwela and Cominoland are both safe and have escape holes. The MV Karwela, one of Gozo's best wrecks, is a former 1980s passenger ferry that was sunk in 2006. It's 50 metres long, with three decks to explore, as well as the engine room, stairwell and bridge. The Cominoland was sunk on the same day, and has two decks to discover. This 35-metre vessel was a World War II Royal Navy minelayer, and its large winch is still visible.
There are plenty more spots for wreck diving in Gozo, including the Rozi, MV Hepthaestus, P29, and P31. However, the island isn't just about diving. Above the water, there's lots to see and do, such as visiting the Ggantija Temple, Hondoq Bay, the Citadel and more. Or spend some time on neighbouring Malta and explore its compact capital city, Valletta.
At Original Diving, we can put together the perfect itinerary, tailor-made to suit your needs.
