Malta and Gozo at a glance
The enchanting island of Malta exudes a golden allure, both figuratively and literally. Ghajn Tuffieha Beach and San Blas both boast golden-hued sands, while the stone used to build Valletta and the Three Cities is warm and honey-colored, as are Mdina's alleyways. The cliffs of Dingli, which reach a staggering 820ft, even reflect the golden shades of the setting sun. Elsewhere, gold weaves through Malta's narrative like a vibrant thread, linking the prehistoric temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra to the cuisine (including grilled prawn skewers, the iconic hobz biz zejt sandwich and Cisk, the locally brewed lager). Punctuating this rich tapestry are contrasting shades of blue - the crystalline cyan of the blue cave, the turquoise shores of Malta's sister islands Gozo and Comino, and the deep blue depths of the island's dive sites. Here the incredible visibility allows the exploration of wrecks and encounters with barracudas, groupers and rays. Above all, the intense blue of the Mediterranean Sea merges seamlessly with the sky, completing the picturesque palette of Malta's landscape.
