Time Difference

The Seychelles is GMT +4 and doesn't observe daylight saving. During the summer, the time difference is just three hours ahead.

Money

The official currency in the Seychelles is the Seychelles rupee, which subdivides into 100 cents. Euros and USD are widely accepted and many establishments (including hotels, car hire and excursion services) charge in these currencies. Credit cards, particularly Visa, MasterCard and American Express, are commonly used for payments and can be used in most hotels and restaurants. Rupees may be needed for transactions in smaller restaurants or shops. ATMs can be found on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

Electricity Plugs

The electrical voltage is 220 volts. The islands use the standard three-pin British plug, so if you are travelling from the UK you won't need to worry about an adaptor.

Local Amenities

General retail shops are open from 08:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Museums typically welcome visitors from 09:00 to 17:00. Banks typically operate from 08:30 to 14:00 or 15:00 on weekdays and from 08:30 to 11:30 on Saturdays. Post offices maintain hours from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays.

Media

The government control the main daily newspaper, the Seychelles Nation. For continuous music tune into Paradise FM on the radio operated by SBC (Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation). SBC broadcasts TV channels in English, French, and Creole. International channels like BBC World Service and CNN are accessible via satellite.

In Victoria, post offices generally operate from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Postal delivery to Europe from Seychelles typically takes about four days.

To make a call to the Seychelles from the UK, dial 00 248 followed by the contact number. When calling the UK from Seychelles, dial 00 44 followed by the number.

Internet and Mobile Coverage

Most hotels offer free Wi-Fi, though in some locations, access may be limited to specific areas and may incur charges. Internet connections can be occasionally slow but overall, there is good coverage across the islands.
