School’s out for summer (or easter, or winter). And what better way to celebrate the lengthy break than by taking an extended family diving holiday to Australasia?

Jetting across the world to Australia and Fiji might seem daunting, but it's worth any jet lag as these far flung exotic destinations have all the features for the perfect family diving adventure. Plus, you can break up the journey in equally exotic stopovers such as Singapore.

Despite Australia's mammoth size it's easy peasy to navigate, with direct flights to all the major cities and no matter where you choose to visit, nature runs through the core of Australia. Want to dive (or snorkel) on the Great Barrier Reef? Perhaps swim with whale sharks and humpback whales off Ningaloo Reef? You can even get the whole family clad in khaki to spot kangaroos and crocodiles in the outback, learn to surf off Bondi beach and eat your way round the country's cosmopolitan cities (Australian red wine for the adults, chocolatey 'tim tams' for the kids).

To truly get away from it all, Fiji is paradise for families. An archipelago of coconut palm-fringed islands, daily agendas revolve around snorkelling or diving the kaleidoscopic coral reefs, playing water sports or re-enacting castaway along the beaches. Add to that fire dances, adventure treks and the Fijians' warm charismatic charm and sprinkle on top some of the best resorts for epic family dive holidays (think: dedicated babysitters, epic kids clubs and marine biologist marvels) and you'll struggle to find a reason to leave.
